Despite the fact that LEDs have a reputation for being a “cool” light source, heat dissipation is something that should be considered in all designs. In some designs, it may not have much impact, but in others, it can make the difference between a product that gives many years of service and one that doesn’t. Traditional methods of heat dissipation in lighting don’t work the same way with LEDs, so it doesn’t work to do it the way it has always been done. We design with these things in mind, not only for the LEDs, but also for the drivers as they can be the weak link in the chain.
